Should You Buy Bitdefender Through a Reseller or Direct?

Should You Buy Bitdefender Through a Reseller or Direct?

GravityZone console displayed on a laptop against a Bitdefender blue background

You can buy Bitdefender GravityZone in a browser in about four minutes, which raises the obvious question: is it cheaper to buy Bitdefender from a reseller, or are you just adding a middleman? For a lot of companies the checkout is genuinely the right call. This guide is about the cases where it is not, and it is written by a Bitdefender reseller, so read it with that in mind and check the parts that are checkable.

The short version: whether you buy Bitdefender through a reseller or direct matters much less than whether the estate is sized correctly. Most of the money companies lose on endpoint security is lost before anyone looks at a rate.

Terms this guide uses

  • Reseller is a firm licensed to sell you the vendor's product. You own the console and the data; the reseller supplies the licenses and whatever delivery it actually does.
  • Managed service provider (MSP) runs your IT or security as an ongoing service, usually monthly, with their own staff operating in your environment.
  • Partner-tier pricing is the rate class a partner can quote from, which differs from what the public checkout displays.
  • Quote-only edition is a product with no published list price and no checkout path, priced by scoping. GravityZone Business Security Enterprise, XDR, and MDR are all quote-only.
  • Seat is one licensed endpoint. Servers and virtual machines count; mobile devices need a separate add-on.

Is it cheaper to buy Bitdefender from a reseller?

The honest answer has two halves, and the second one matters more.

On rate: partner tiers exist, and ours is Gold. That gives us pricing across the GravityZone catalog that is not what the public checkout shows, and it goes into the quote. What we will not tell you is that a partner is automatically cheaper than every alternative. Bitdefender sells direct at volume too, and a big enough deal negotiated directly can price very well.

On the bill: this is where the real money is. The three ways companies overpay for endpoint security have nothing to do with the per-seat rate:

  • Buying the wrong tier. Blanket Premium across an estate where twelve machines actually needed it. That is a multiple of any rate difference.
  • Paying for seats nobody uses. Decommissioned machines hold their license until you both uninstall the agent and remove the endpoint from inventory. Count what the console shows against the machines you actually run before you renew, because a retired laptop that was never removed is still consuming a seat.
  • Auto-renewing last year's quantity. The count drifts every year, in both directions.

Fixing those three is worth more than the rate on almost every deal under a few hundred endpoints. That is the actual argument for having somebody in the loop, and it is why "which is cheaper" is the wrong first question. Our pricing guide and tier comparison cover the sizing work in detail.

Bitdefender enterprise license procurement: what actually changes

Three concrete things change depending on how you buy. None of them is a matter of opinion.

Above 100 devices, self-serve stops. Bitdefender's checkout maxes out at 100 seats. Past that its comparison page routes you to its own business inquiry form, and its product pages point to the official partner network through a partner locator. Both routes are real and both work.

Some editions never appear in the checkout at all. GravityZone Business Security Enterprise, which is where endpoint detection and response actually lives, plus XDR and MDR, are quote-only at any size. If you need EDR, you are getting a quote regardless of who you get it from.

The channel choice is sticky, and Bitdefender documents this. Its support documentation for the cloud console states that the Purchase section "is only visible to companies that have purchased products exclusively from Bitdefender," and that "if at any point a company has purchased a product from a Partner, this section will not be visible." That is worth knowing before you pick, in either direction: buying once through a partner permanently changes how the console behaves for you.

Buying Bitdefender through managed service providers, resellers, or direct

These get used interchangeably and they are not the same purchase.

Direct means you buy from Bitdefender, you own the console, and you run everything. Support comes from Bitdefender's channels. For a company with capable IT and a simple estate, this is clean and there is nothing wrong with it.

A reseller sells you the licenses and, depending on the reseller, helps with deployment, migration, and renewals. You still own your console and your data. You are buying the licensing relationship plus whatever delivery that firm actually does. This is what we are.

A managed service provider runs your IT or your security as an ongoing service, usually with their own tooling and their own staff in your environment monthly. Bitdefender runs an MSP partner program separate from its reselling channel program, licensed monthly rather than annually. That is a different commercial model from reselling, and if you want somebody operating your endpoints day to day rather than standing them up and supporting them, an MSP is the thing to ask for.

Worth separating clearly: wanting the platform operated around the clock is not the same as wanting an MSP. Bitdefender MDR puts Bitdefender's own SOC on your environment, which for most companies under a few hundred people is a better answer than hiring or outsourcing a night shift.

How to find Bitdefender authorized partners

Verify rather than trust, including us.

Use Bitdefender's own partner directory. It lists partners with their partner level and lets you filter by Silver, Gold, and Platinum, so a tier a firm claims is something you can check rather than take on trust.

Ask which tier and check it. Tiers are real and they are verifiable. Ours is Reseller Gold in Bitdefender's Partner Advantage Network. If a firm is vague about the tier, that is the answer.

Ask what they do after the invoice. This is the question that separates firms more than tier does. Who runs the deployment. Who maps policy. Who handles the renewal requote. Who you call at 2pm when something breaks. A reseller that only forwards license keys is a purchase order with extra steps.

Ask what they will tell you not to buy. Any partner who has never talked a client down a tier is selling, not advising.

Bitdefender GravityZone business security reseller: what we actually do

Concretely, so you can compare it against anyone else:

  • Scope and right-size. Device count split by workstations, servers, and mobiles, mapped to the tier that fits rather than the biggest one. File servers get checked against the 30% share the license covers, and mobile gets called out as the separate add-on it is.
  • Quote at partner-tier pricing, including the quote-only editions that never reach the checkout.
  • Run the deployment, including removal of the incumbent agent, policy configuration, and the exclusions that decide whether people file tickets in week one. Our migration guide is the process we actually follow.
  • Manage renewals, which means recounting seats and requoting before the date rather than repeating last year's number. Our renewal guide covers the mechanics.
  • Escalate into Bitdefender when something needs the vendor, so you are not the one explaining your environment to a queue.

What buying direct gets you

A guide from a reseller that never recommends buying direct is a sales page. Direct is the better answer in several real situations.

You are under 100 devices with a simple Windows estate and capable IT. Self-serve is fast, the console is good, and there is nothing a middle party adds that you cannot do yourself in an afternoon.

You have a security team already. If you have people who configure policy, tune exclusions, and read alerts, delivery help is not what you are short of.

You are large enough to negotiate directly and want to. Above self-serve, Bitdefender's inquiry form goes to their team, and a large deal handled directly can price very well.

You want a single vendor relationship on principle. Some procurement functions genuinely prefer this, and it is a legitimate preference rather than a mistake.

If two or more of those describe you, buy direct. It is the right call more often than people in our position tend to admit.

When a reseller is the wrong choice

Even when a partner makes sense in principle, the wrong one costs more than none.

Avoid any partner who quotes without asking for a device count split by type. Avoid one who cannot tell you which tier includes EDR, because that single question separates firms who know the product from firms who resell it. Avoid one whose answer to every requirement is the top tier. And avoid one who is hard to reach during the sale, because that is the best version of their responsiveness you will ever see.

There is a specific risk worth naming: an unresponsive reseller becomes your problem at renewal. Bitdefender routes partner-sourced renewals to commercial support rather than to self-serve checkout, so a partner who has gone quiet is something to sort out well before the expiry date, not during it.

Is Bitdefender being discontinued?

No, and the confusion is a naming change rather than a product ending. Bitdefender's Small Office Security was discontinued and upgraded into Bitdefender Ultimate Small Business Security, which sits in the consumer catalog for very small teams without an administrator. The business line, GravityZone, is current and actively developed. If somebody told you your Bitdefender product is going away, check which product they mean before you go shopping.

Questions buyers ask us

Do we pay more by going through a partner? There is no separate fee for the partner relationship. Bitdefender compensates partners through its channel, and the quote carries our partner-tier rate. Whether that beats a large deal negotiated directly comes down to volume, which is why the rate is the smaller lever.

Can we start direct and move to a partner later, or the other way? You can, and it is worth knowing this is not perfectly symmetrical. Bitdefender's documentation is explicit that once a company has purchased through a Partner, the Purchase section in the cloud console stops being visible. Ask about the mechanics before you switch rather than after.

We only want the licenses, nothing else. Is that fine? Yes. License-only is a normal way to buy, and it should still come with correct sizing. If you want nothing but a rate on a quantity you have already decided, say so and you should get exactly that.

Why use an MSP for Bitdefender GravityZone? Because you want the endpoints operated day to day, not just licensed and deployed. That is the real dividing line. Bitdefender runs a dedicated MSP partner program, separate from its reselling channel program and licensed monthly, which is a different commercial model from the annual or multi-year licensing sold on the business side. If nobody on your side will be administering the console at all, ask for an MSP rather than a reseller.

We already have an IT consultant handling licensing. Should we change anything? Probably not, if it is working. IT consultant Bitdefender licensing arrangements are common and perfectly sound. The questions worth asking them are the same ones above: which tier includes EDR, what the current seat count actually is, and whether the renewal gets requoted or repeated.

Do you cover the US as well as Canada? Both. We are a Bitdefender Reseller Gold Partner working with businesses across the United States and Canada, and licensing, deployment, and renewals run the same way in either country. That Gold status is what makes the pricing work: it opens deeper partner discounts across the GravityZone catalog, and that room goes into your quote.

How fast can we get a quote? For a straightforward estate, same or next business day once we have the device count. Quote-only editions like Business Security Enterprise, XDR, and MDR take longer because they get scoped rather than looked up.

What if we need MDR rather than more licenses? Then the conversation is about coverage, not seats. Bitdefender's MDR service commits to a security account manager calling your emergency contact within 30 minutes of an incident, which is the kind of thing worth comparing against what your team can actually do at 3am. Our MDR guide covers what the service includes.

The short version

  • Rate is the small lever. Wrong tier, dead seats, and auto-renewed quantities cost far more than the per-seat difference.
  • Self-serve checkout stops at 100 devices; above that Bitdefender routes to both its own inquiry form and its partner network. Both are real.
  • EDR, XDR, and MDR are quote-only at any size, so those always involve a conversation.
  • Buying once through a partner permanently removes the Purchase section from the cloud console, per Bitdefender's own documentation.
  • Reseller, MSP, and direct are three different purchases. Decide which one you actually want first.
  • Verify any partner against Bitdefender's own partner locator, including us.

Send us a device count split by workstations, servers, and mobiles, plus what you run today and your renewal date. You will get a right-sized quote at partner-tier pricing, and a straight answer about which tier you actually need. We are a Bitdefender Reseller Gold Partner serving businesses across the United States and Canada, listed in Bitdefender's own partner locator so the tier is checkable. Gold is a discount tier rather than a badge: it opens deeper partner discounts across the GravityZone catalog, and that room goes into your quote. Our Bitdefender Gold Partner practice in Canada covers how we run deployments. If your situation is one of the buy-direct cases above, we will tell you that instead, which is the same approach we take to consolidation work in our workflow automation practice.
